Working With Us

What to expect from Sonskrif Studios

Our Commitment

Making music is creative, personal, and sometimes vulnerable work. We believe the conditions in which you create matter as much as the technical quality of what's captured. Sonskrif exists to make professional recording accessible, inclusive, and genuinely enjoyable for everyone who walks through the door, regardless of experience, background, or identity.

you belong here

You don't need to have been in a studio before. You don't need to know the technical language. You don't need to have a music degree, a following, or a finished song. If you have something you want to make, that's enough.

We work with musicians at every stage: first-timers, seasoned professionals, young people, older artists coming back to music, bands, solo artists, community groups, and everyone in between. There is no typical Sonskrif client, and there is no threshold you need to meet to deserve professional support.

Your Comfort & Safety

Bring someone with you. You are always welcome to have a friend, partner, bandmate, family member, or support worker in the room or nearby. No explanation needed.

Choose your engineer. Our default engineer and producer is Daniel Woodfield. If you would prefer a woman leading your session, Leigh Beckly is available on request. Let us know when you book and we'll arrange it.

Safeguarding. Daniel holds an enhanced DBS check. If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must be present, and we require their written permission before any session.

There is no judgement here. We will never make you feel foolish for asking a question, not knowing a term, needing something explained again, or taking longer than expected. That's not how we operate.

Access & Individual Needs

Tell us what you need. Whether that's a physical access requirement, a preferred working pattern, regular breaks, quieter working conditions, large-print materials, or anything else, we want to know in advance so we can prepare properly.

Neurodivergence. We understand that people process information, communicate, and work differently. If you have ADHD, autism, dyslexia, or any other neurodivergent trait, let us know how we can structure the session to work best for you. That might mean shorter bursts of recording, written briefs instead of verbal instructions, advance information about what to expect on the day, dimmer lighting, or anything else. We'll adapt.

Mobility & physical needs. Our studio setup can be adjusted. If you have specific requirements for seating, instrument positioning, or physical access, let us know when you book and we'll make sure everything is in place.

Mental health. Recording can bring up unexpected emotions, especially if the material is personal. If you need to pause, step outside, take a break, or stop entirely, that's always okay. There is no pressure to push through. We'd rather you felt safe than finished.

How Sessions Feel

We explain as we go. Unless you tell us otherwise, we'll walk you through what's happening at each stage: why we're choosing a particular microphone, what we're listening for, what the next step is. You're never left wondering what's going on.

Your creative decisions are yours. We'll offer suggestions, ideas, and honest feedback. But you have the final say. We're here to serve your vision, not impose ours.

Mistakes are part of the process. There is no "wasting studio time." False starts, wrong notes, forgotten lyrics, emotional moments: all of these are normal. Every artist who has ever recorded anything has experienced them. The studio is a safe space to be imperfect.

We work at your pace. If you need to spread sessions across weeks or months, that's fine. If you want to take longer over decisions, that's fine. If you work best early in the morning or late in the evening, we'll try to accommodate. The project bends to fit your life, not the other way around.
